Artist Statement

Art might sustain me, but art is not for just me. I have an ethic of continuous growth, both personal and communal as I develop my art. I find working on any creative project in any sense as an opportunity for evolution. A piece of art can adjust the lenses through which I see the world. Being intimate with a project can completely switch out those lenses for new ones, whether I am working as a writer, director, dramaturg or any other close and/or creative role to the work. However, growth does not only occur on the personal level. It also can through a community. As an artist who strives to be selfless, growing as a community, to me, is the most important type of growth one can be a part of through art. Communal growth can manifest itself in countless, surprising ways, whether that is the community within the theatre, the community the theatre serves or a community half-way around the world, communal growth, for me, is the output of truly great art. And that is the type of art I want to be a part of.
